| BACKGROUND
In 2004, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam consented to the formation of a Council for Long-Term Development Planning to offer an inspiring vision of Brunei Darussalam in 2035 and present a detailed account of the technical, financial and strategic requirements for it to be brought to reality in the thirty years that mark the passing of one generation to the next. The Council for Long-Term Development Planning undertook a public consultation to determine the hopes of the people of Brunei Darussalam for the future and described it as aspirations to maintain the political stability Brunei Darussalam continues to enjoy; to preserve social, cultural, spiritual and historic value; to help people meet the practical challenges of the modern world successful and to give families and communities confidence in the future. The Council published a document in 2007 stating the vision for the future that will fulfil the people's long-term hopes and expectations. This long term vision is known as The Wawasan Brunei 2035. On 14th August 2014, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam highlighted the importance of keeping track with the nation's progress in achieving the Wawasan Brunei 2035 and thus consented the formation of the Majlis Tertinggi Wawasan Brunei 2035. The main role of the council is to provide intensive and systematic support towards implementing initiatives by government agencies to realise the outcomes of the Wawasan Brunei 2035. | |
